In our mountainous region we often are faced with issues related to drainage. Keeping water away from building foundations is crucial. We create swales both to provide drainage solutions and to beautify landscapes. Some small swales are created to resemble dry streams and are composed primarily of river cobbles. This large swale was originally a weed-infested abandoned irrigation ditch which bisected the property. We cleared and widened the ditch, imported high quality, screened topsoil and planted shrubs, flowers and bulbs. This swale is bursting with color from April through October.
